About

The westernmost prefecture of Honshu, Yamaguchi features breathtaking visuals both old and new. The historic Rurikoji Temple, featuring a stunning five-story pagoda and beautifully maintained gardens, offers a serene yet impressive experience. Another major highlight is the Akiyoshido Cave, one of Japan's largest limestone caves, known for its stunning stalactites and stalagmites that create a captivating subterranean landscape. While much more recent, the 1,780 meter (5,840 ft)-long Tsunoshima Bridge is an absolutely incredible sight to behold on a clear day. Yamaguchi is also renowned for its local cuisine, particularly fresh raw oysters prized for their briny flavor, and fugu (pufferfish), famous (and infamous) for its intricate preparation.
