There are many paths towards living and working in Japan, and becoming an Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) is one of the most popular options. Borderlink has been recruiting and placing ALTs for over 25 years.

Typical Spring Start Position Details

Spring 2026

*Immediate-start positions are also available for those already living in Japan
 
North Japan - includes Hokkaido and the Tohoku region
East Japan - includes the Kanto region
Central Japan - includes the Tokai and Hokushinetsu regions
West Japan - includes the Kansai region
Southwest Japan - includes the Chugoku region and Shikoku
South Japan - includes Kyushu and Okinawa
Full-Time: Mondays to Fridays, with possible work on weekends.
Part-Time: Between 1 to 5 days per week but the working hours are the same as a full school day.
One year, generally starting from April 2026 to March 2027. 
Between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm
(Working times vary from one city to another.)
Monthly salary starts at 200,000 yen and up*
Daily salary starts at 10,000 yen and up*

*Based on experience, language ability, and teaching skill.
Enrollment in social insurance*, transportation reimbursement (up to 30,000 yen per month for Full-Time positions and up to 1,500 yen per day for Part-Time positions), paid holidays, paid training, visa support, help with setting up bank account and mobile phone, relocation assistance, access to teaching materials and lesson plans, and more

*Based on position type.
***August is the summer vacation in Japan, and the salary for this month is generally not included within the contract period. However, we do offer part-time work for most ALTs during this time, such as assisting with summer camps, speech competition training at junior high schools, and Japanese teacher training sessions.
