About
Gunma Prefecture is a landlocked area bordering Niigata, Nagano and Fukushima as well as Saitama and Tochigi. With 14% of its total land dedicated to natural parks, Gunma is a mountainous area that also contains some of Japan's most well-known and classy hot spring resorts. The small town of Kusatsu has more than 100 hot springs alone. Gunma is also a great area for activities such as hiking, skiing, and rafting. There’s also plenty to see and do in its urban areas like Maebashi or Takasaki. And plenty to eat as well- traditional foods include Yakimanju (a savory miso-coated bun, that is skewered and grilled) and Okkirikomi (flat udon noodles in a soy-sauce broth filled with seasonal vegetables). The traditional center of horse breeding in Japan, Gunma is a delightful area that equestrians, nature-lovers and foodies alike will all enjoy.
