About

Bordering the Pacific Ocean, Ibaraki is home to several scenic spots such as the Hitachi Seaside Park and the famous Kairaken Garden. A producer of many agricultural products including Hitachi Beef, dried sweet potatoes, melons, it also has fantastic sea food that can be found along the coastal edge. Ibaraki also boasts a rich tradition of samurai culture and handmade crafts such as pottery, textiles, and lanterns. One of Ibaraki’s major cities is Tsukuba, known as a center of science and innovation. Over the past several decades, nearly half of Japan's public research and development budget has been spent in Tsukuba, and it is one of the world's key sites for scientific development. Along with the new comes the old though, and Ibaraki is as much a portal to the past as it is a gateway to the future. You can find many shrines and temples all across the prefecture, and you won’t want to miss one-of-a-kind sights like the Ushiku Daibutsu and Divine Forest in Kashima.
