About

The landlocked Gifu prefecture sits to the north of Nagoya city, and truly feels like the keystone between east and west Japan. It is a land of small villages and big cities, with the biggest being the capital of Gifu City. Here one finds the iconic Gifu Castle, offering panoramic city views and a glimpse into the region's history through its museum. The scenic Nagara River, popular for boat rides, runs through the area and is especially popular during the firefly season. A major highlight is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Shirakawa-go, known for its traditional gassho-zukuri farmhouses and enchanting winter scenery. The prefecture also includes the Okuhida Onsen region, beloved for its serene hot springs in the Northern Alps, and the Kiso Valley with its well-preserved post towns from the ancient Nakasendo Trail. Gifu is famed for its traditional crafts, including Mino ware pottery and washi paper. With its diverse landscapes supporting hiking and river rafting, Gifu offers a rich blend of historical, cultural, and outdoor experiences to enjoy.

【About Kaizu City (岐阜県海津市)】
Located in the southwest corner of Gifu, Kaizu City is synonymous with water. The Ibi and Nagara rivers run through the city, and the levees that surround the area have become one of its signature features. Local attractions include the Chiyobo Inari Shring and Kisosansen Park, where the three largest rivers in the city meet. An agricultural center, Kaizu has produce such as rice, wheat, soybeans, cucumbers, tomatoes and green peppers. It is also the northernmost point in Japan that grows satsuma mikan. If you're interested in living close to Nagoya while avoiding the higher rent prices of the city, Kaizu is a great place to settle down.
