Since we began in 2000, we have helped to make hundreds of people’s dreams of coming to Japan a reality. Perhaps you are drawn here out of a desire to see traditional temples, or the bustle of modern cities. You may be a connoisseur of Japanese culture or cuisine. Or maybe you seek to teach anywhere and everywhere and this is simply the latest desination in your journey. Whatever the case may be, with the support of the Borderlink staff and the warm welcome of those at your schools, you will form everlasting memories and leave an impact on the lives of your students forever.

Inspire students, and be inspired yourself

The minute you walk into your new school, you are greeted with smiles from students and staff. The students whisper in curiosity about where you are from, eager to know more. You now have the opportunity to inspire Japanese students to travel and learn just as you have.

As you find yourself inspired by them, they in turn will be inspired by you. Once you have lived and worked in Japan, you will never look at the world in the same way.

Meet people from all across the globe

If you have never lived away from your home country before, Japan is a great place to start. Two out of every hundred people in Japan are foreigners, and many of the comforts of your home country can be found here in some form or another.

As you get adjusted to your new life, you will get the opportunity to form friendships with not only Japanese people, but also other ALTs. You will count among your friends people from all corners of the world. They say that travel broadens the mind, and living abroad will do even more than that.

As you probably know, Japanese people have a reputation of being incredibly welcoming and kind. “Omoiyari,” or having regard for the thoughts and feelings of others, is one of the cornerstones of Japanese culture. Keep this in mind and reciprocate it yourself in all your encounters- your life will become better for it.

Enjoy the support that Borderlink has to offer

We’re here to ensure your transition to Japan is as smooth as possible. Our support starts before you begin, whether you're coming from overseas or joining us as a resident already in Japan.

From the moment you accept a formal job offer, our team is at work to help the transitional process. We can provide assistance so that you secure the necessary work visa. We work very closely with a realtor to help you find a residence. At our training sessions, our experienced training team provides you with a detailed manual and much more to prepare you for the days ahead.

In the event of an emergency, our HR staff is available 24 hours a day.

Develop as a teacher

Borderlink provides several days of training for newly hired ALTs, as well as seasonal training  every year during the time you're with us. Training covers Japanese school culture, teaching techniques, activities for the classroom, Japanese manners, Japanese language, immigration issues, and health care.

At periodic ALT meetings, ALTs have the opportunity to speak to other ALTs in their area, and get new ideas for their lessons, share teaching methods and / or discuss current teaching trends.

Here at Borderlink, we want you to enhance your teaching skill and have meaningful experiences during your time at the schools.

Assistance for Living in Japan

Moving to another country can be quite an adventure, especially if everything is new to you. You may not know how to pay bills, how to take the trains, or what to do in the event of an emergency. We are right behind you, every step of the way, with Japanese language assistance and a lending hand.

Visas

We sponsor instructor visas for successful candidates who will work as ALTs in Japanese public schools. For our overseas candidates, this process usually takes a couple of months, which is why the recruitment season starts well in advance.

First, you need to complete the documentation for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE), which is necessary to obtain a visa. This certificate is issued by immigration to Borderlink. We will then send it to you in your home country. You can then visit your closes Japamese embassy or consulate to obtain your visa.

Our visa expert and Human Resource staff is always available to help you through the process, either by phone or email. If you are hired domestically, we can help you extend your period of stay (visa renewal) or transfer your visa over to an instructor visa so that you are able to work legally as an ALT.
We strictly adhere to Japanese immigration law, and are updated about any developments in the system.

Relocation

If you are moving from overseas, we have an affiliated realtor to assist in finding an apartment within comfortable commuting distance from your schools. Most ALTs are placed in LeoPalace apartments.
Usually these apartments are partially furnished with electronic appliances and Internet access,
making them a great option for those coming from overseas.

If you are hired from within Japan, and are coming from another area, our realtor will be able to assist you with this as well. Once you have moved and need help in purchasing items for the apartment, our staff will provide you with more information.

Banking

We assist our ALTs in opening an account with a Borderlink-affiliated bank within Japan.
Most ALTs maintain an account in their home country, as it can sometimes be difficult for foreigners to obtain credit cards in Japan.

During your time in Japan, should you ever need to send money overseas, we can provide you information on how to do so. We do advise that you have a trusted contact in your home country with access to your account to facilitate this process.

Health Care

The health of our ALTs is one of our top priorities. We require all of our ALTs to be insured, and we strongly recommend enrollment in National Health Insurance. National Health Insurance pays 70% of medical fees, including dental, and it is quite affordable in comparison to rates of other countries.

Everyone has a health examination prior to the start of school, and our staff can provide information on clinics with English-speaking doctors.

In the event of an emergency, our staff is available 24 hours a day to help you.
