Applying from Overseas
Borderlink has a lot to offer new candidates who are applying from overseas. We provide visa sponsorship, assist in finding housing, and our staff provides 24-hour a day language assistance and support.
1. Application Process
Start the application process with the intial form below. Candidates who pass the first screening stage will be sent the full application form to fill out.
2. Interview Process
After submitting the full application form, those who pass the next round of screening will be invited to join our online orientation & preliminary interview sessions.
3. Visa Application
After passing the final interview stage, you will be asked to submit documents for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE), which is required for obtaining a visa. During this time, we will also be providing pre-arrival support as you make preparations for your journey to Japan.
4. Arrival in Japan
Now comes the fun part! After arrival, newly-hired candidates for spring positions have a week-long training with our team of skilled instructors. Thorough information is given upfront to you adjust to your schools and life in Japan.
5. Placement and Apartment Move-in
Once final placement has been determined, our staff works closely with you and an affiliated realtor to place you in an apartment that meets your needs.
Following Placement
Regular training is provided throughout the year. This includes the seasonal training sessions and ALT meetings, wherein ALTs gather to share ideas and techniques. There may also be additional training sessions throughout the year which can be arranged as needed.
For those ALTs who would like to improve their Japanese, many cities now provide free Japanese language classes or Japanese language exchanges. Borderlink also has a summer course for those looking to level up their Japanese skills.

Requirements for applying are as follows:
- Native-level English (you had a minimum of 12 years of education with English was the main medium of instruction, and can provide letters from your schools stating as such)
- A Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- You're a team player who enjoys working with students of varying ages
- You can be be flexible with the location and school type(s) you work in
Desired, but not required
- Japanese ability
- Teaching experience
- Teaching qualifications (TESOL, TEFL, CELTA, licensure, etc.)
- Hold a valid driver's license and are interested in driving in Japan
