MUSUBI: Fukuoka's Favorites!
Hey there!

I have been living in Fukuoka for five years now as an ALT, and these are some of my favorite things to do!

Touring Ohori Park

This park, which boasts a large pond at its center, is located in central Fukuoka. It is also home to many varieties of trees; pine trees at Nakanoshima, willow trees near the pond, oak, gingko, holly, magnolia, fig and other types of plants in the green belt. You can enjoy tulips in spring and sunflowers in summer.

My favorite part of Ohori Park is the Japanese Garden and the Pumpkin near the Art Museum. My favorite season to visit Ohori Park is during fall because the gingko trees and Japanese Garden provide very scenic backgrounds for autumn photos.

Hakata Sunset Cruise

Fukuoka sunsets are so magical! So, I like to indulge myself in a luxury sunset cruise once in a while at Marinoa. Surprisingly the cruise only costs about 5500 Yen and for that you can not only enjoy scenic views around Fukuoka, but also have BBQ and drinks all included in the fee.

There are shopping departments around the area as well and a Ferris wheel to give you the night view of Fukuoka. It is truly a magical experience that you would not want to miss out on while in Fukuoka.

Tacos at Tacomia

One of my summer rituals is to enjoy Mexican food at Tacomia by the beach at Momochihama. Tacomia is a very foreigner-friendly restaurant which usually holds events during summer where you can meet new people, dance salsa and make many friends while playing at the beach and enjoying some scenic views from Fukuoka tower. It is truly an unforgettable experience. So why don’t you check it out this summer?

Reggae Concerts

I must say I was so surprised to find out that Japanese people were so into reggae. According to my experience, the friendliest community in Fukuoka with the best vibes is the reggae community. If you want to feel at home, make sure you acquaint yourself with the reggae fans in Fukuoka. You can find them in restaurants like Up Setters, Bommes Indee and Rock Steady Café. While at it, be on the lookout for reggae concerts which normally happen at Voodoo Lounge. They are truly unforgettable and the reggae family is one for keeps. So, don’t be lonely in Fukuoka, okay?

Hakata Rooftop!

In case you need to unwind after hustling the whole day, then look no further than the Hakata Rooftop. It is simply beautiful and very relaxing. This place allows you to enjoy the panoramic views of Fukuoka City. It also features a train shrine where people pray for traffic safety and a model train running on the site, and is a great place to catch a break. From this spot, you can also look down on shinkansen trains arriving at and leaving the platform, which makes it an interesting site for train lovers!

The list is endless, but those were some of my favorite things to do while in Fukuoka. I am looking forward to your reviews on these places and your list about your favorite things to do in cities around Japan. Kwaheri! Bye!
