【About Nagahama City (滋賀県長浜市)】
Located along the northern shore of Lake Biwa, Nagahama is Shiga's second largest city and a slight detour from Maibara to the south, where the Shinkansen (bullet train) runs through. This makes Nagahama a great place to base onself, as access to both Nagoya in the east and Kyoto/Osaka in the west are quite easy. The city encompasses a wide variety of environments and features some spectacular views of Japan's biggest lake. The traditional cuisine of the area includes salty-sweet cooked sōmen with mackerel and ayu sweetfish from Lake Biwa itself.

Other local attractions include Nagahama Castle, the Old Nagahama Station Museum (featuring Japan's oldest preserved railroad station), Chikubu Island (an island in Lake Biwa with a small shrine), numerous festivals, museums, and much more. The Tonda Bunraku Puppet Troupe, which has been performing traditional Japanese puppetry since the 1830's, is also based in this city. Nagahama is an area where the four seasons can truly be felt, from spring cherry blossoms and humid summer nights (where the sound of frogs in the rice paddies can be heard for miles) to colorful autumn leaves and cold winters (where heavy snow accumulation often occurs across the city). For those who enjoy driving, it's easy to navigate due to wide open roads and an orderly, grid-based layout. A true hidden treasure in the heart of Japan, Nagahama is one of the best places to take your ALT career in 2025.

【About Kashiba City (奈良県香芝市)】
Located in northwest Nara Prefecture, Kashiba is a small suburban city with a relaxed atmosphere. Largely consisting of flat farmland, it is an easy area to navigate the urban center by car due to its grid-like layout, which is common throughout this region. Among the local attractions in the area are Donzurubo,a geological curiosity of folded limestone that allows for some spectacular views. There's also Kitsui Shiroyama Tomb, the keyhole-shaped tumulus believed to have been built around the 5th-6th centuries. One of the most unusual and charming sights in Kashiba is a small hut along Naga Pond where a family of sheep are maintained. Make Kashiba your next teaching destination today!
